Aesthetic Nose Surgery: Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can correct the nasal hump (dorsum) and the tip, depending on the alterations and characteristics the nose has, and it can either require a reduction in size, which is the most normal case, or an increase. We also often correct, during the operation, the nasal septum (septoplasty) and, were it necessary, the conchae. The patient in the photograph shows the results of the correction of the nasal tip (it dropped and was wide) and dorsum (presents moderate gibbous).Rhinoplasty can correct the nasal hump (dorsum) and the tip, depending on the alterations and characteristics the nose has, and it can either require a reduction in size, which is the most normal case, or an increase. Rhinoplasty treats bridge (dorsum), nose tip and septum (nasal septum) depending on the alterations the nose has. A nose might require a reduction in size, like the patient in the picture, or an increase.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedures in Spain and is especially demanded by men. It's main objective is to achieve a greater harmonic effect, not only of the nose as an independent structure, but also in relationship with the facial physiognomy. The aim is to try to make a nose which corresponds to each patient's features and which has a natural effect, and doesn't seem operated on. That is why nose surgery is one of the biggest challenges a plastic surgeon faces: it's the combination of science with art, skill and sensibility.

Rhinoplasty was traditionally considered the procedure to correct very big noses (rhinomegaly) that usually present an abnormal hump in the ridge of the nose (rhinokyphosis).
