Aesthetic Jaw Surgery
Exaggerated mandible development causes a long face and pulls the lower lip down. Mandibular shortening normalizes face and lip position. This patient suffers an important mandibular asymmetry and vertical chin excess, which we correct by an asymmetrical trimming of the chin (vertical osteotomy).
Jaw alterations cause retrognathism or prognathism. Jaw position can be surgically corrected by moving it forwards or backwards.
We recur to solid silicone or Gore-tex implants when jaw lines and angles are underdeveloped. These implants are available in different shapes and sizes, this allows a custom-made implant to meet each patient’s need. In order to place the implant, a small incision is made in the mucous membrane with local anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and in an ambulatory regime. This can cause temporary alterations in lip sensibility and movement.
On the other hand, if a prominent chin is the problem, this can be corrected through osteotomy or bone cutting.
